Forgetting the foundation of this adage, in many doctor’s offices, will lead to misdiagnosis and poor results. Let’s take your knee for example. The first point of impact and loading on the body is the feet. Because of footwear, humans have adapted an arch, which in prehistoric days, humans were flatfooted. Because of the anatomical flaws associated with this evolution, we can develop many issues. Fallen Arch Syndrome is common place today, and is in fact the leading cause of knee injuries. You see, when the Arch of the foot drops, or overpronated, it increases pressure on the inside of the knee. Gravity is now working against you, and your joints are now prone to injury.

In my experience, where many physicians fail in their diagnosis and treatment protocol, is in these details. When a patient comes to the office complaining of knee pain, the physician will typically examine the knee and the area of pain. They will then proceed to treat the pain locally. While this may be a good short term option, the larger problem still remains, the Fallen Arch. At this point, care needs to be taken to correct the Fallen Arch to prevent further injury, and relieve any residual pain.

As a Sports Chiropractor, I focus on these patterns that are often missed by physicians. In doing so, patients not only get out of pain, but experience long term results. If you are having pain, I would be glad to consult with you to get you back in the game.

If you work a desk job, inevitably you’ve encountered a sore back from sitting for extended periods of time. That’s because often your body is forced to sit in a position which is not natural for you. It is important to position your spine so that your joints are naturally aligned. This will reduce strain on your muscles, tendons, and skeletal system.

There are two things to consider when sitting at a computer, the chair you sit in and the position of your computer. A good supportive chair is essential. Most computer chairs are adjustable to accommodate the user. Sit with your feet falt on the floor and your back against the chair for support. If your chair does not have built in lumbar support, invest in a lumbar support pillow to place in the small of your back while sitting. This will help prevent muscle fatigue. Adjust your chair so your hips are parallel to your knees and your ears are directly over your shoulders. You should generally sit about 2 feet from your computer screen. Make sure your head is in a comfortable neutral position so you don’t have to look up or down for the monitor. This could strain your muscles or cause you headaches. Keep your forearms parallel to the floor while using the keyboard.

Also, get up every 20-30 minutes to stretch and walk around! No matter how healthy you are, sitting for prolonged periods of time is not good for your posture. Over time, desk jobs can cause chronic muscle fatigue and spinal misalignment that can deteriorate your quality of life. When this is the case, Chiropractic Adjustments and physical therapy modalities can help realign your posture and restore strength in your muscles. If you are suffering from pain related to “sitting” at work all day, contact us today for a free consultation. We can help get you back on track to feeling better and improving your conditions.

Visit Allisonville Chiropractic www.chiropractorfishers.com today or call us at (317)836-5221.

How is this done?… Think of your body like a Race Car. It has an electrical system (nervous system), and mechanical system (bones/ligaments/muscles). If either malfunctions or is improperly balanced, it is going to affect the performance of the car. In the case of the Race Car, hours of meticulous preparation is given to ensure not only proper performance, but also mechanical and electrical integrity so that the car can go the distance under stress. The driver is well aware of the setup of the car, how it feels, and its functioning. When the driver notices an issue, he has a team of mechanics there to help make the necessary adjustments.

Your body as an athlete is exactly the same. However, are you putting in the time to ensure that your body can go the distance under stress, and preparing it for optimal performance? We can all learn a lesson from this. That is, without proper preparation of the electrical and mechanical components of your body, it is bound to underperform or break down. Dr. Drew Hoffman, Sports Chiropractor, is the expert in the mechanics of the body. He will help to fine tune and make adjustments to your body to ensure optimal performance and longevity in your sport. Working with elite athletes, Dr. Hoffman has perfected the art of biomechanics and performance for any athlete. Call Dr. Drew Hoffman at Allisonville Chiropractic in Fishers, IN, to schedule your evaluation today.

Headaches are a common ailment suffered by many people. There are a wide variety of headaches from Sinus to Migraine. Most of the time, people revert to over the counter medication or expensive tests to find the cause of their headaches with no avail.

In the upper cervical spine (neck) their is a dense bundle of nerves and muscles, which when they become stressed, will cause headaches. So what is stress? 1.) Physical Stress: Misalignment in the spine is a common cause of headaches. Also, your head is the same weight as a bowling ball. If you carry your head forward of your shoulders, we call this Forward Head Posture, and will cause major stress. Think about the stress on your arm if you were to hold a bowling ball out in front of your body all day long! This is the same as sitting at a desk or driving in the car several hours a day with Forward Head Posture. 2.) Chemical Stress: There is either something inside your body that is doesn’t like (toxicity) , or it doesn’t have something that it wants (deficiency). Your body will let you know in form of symptoms such as a headache. This is common with Migraines. 3.) Emotional Stress: No explaination needed here, this is life.

Is it practical then to eliminate Physcial, Chemical, and Emotional stress completely? The simple answer is No. HOW you MANAGE these stressors is the key to alleviating headaches. As a chiropractor, I help you to identify your stressors, provide relief, and then educate you on how to prevent the headaches from coming back. In doing so, the patient can get get back to their normal life, with less stress, and pain-free.

If you or someone you love is suffering from headaches, there is help. The Chiropractors at Allisonville Chiropractic in Fishers, will identify the cause and help you get back to living your life pain-free. Call us today at (317) 836-5221 to schedule your FREE Consultation today.

The knee is a very complex joint. But, without it, we cannot move. The knee is the most commonly injured joint in the body for athletes and can lead to big issues down the road. Most injuries to the knee can be avoided with proper precaution. Interestingly enough the cause of most severe knee injury is not the knee at all, it’s the feet. Overpronation of the feet causes stress on the knee joint, and predisposes individuals to major injury. How the feet function from left to right makes a big difference too. If you overpronate on one side more than the other, you will carry more body weight on that side, predisposing that side to injury.

Disc Herniation can be frightening. There are alternative treatments for disc herniations that can be provided by a chiropractor. Intervertebral Discs are a fibrous structure that separate the vertebrae and act as shock absorbers for the spine. These Discs are filled with a gelatinous material that can bulge, putting pressure on the nerves or spinal cord. This happens often after an accident, or something as simple as simple as lifting improperly. Symptoms of a disc herniation often include pain and spasm, numbness/tingling in the extremities. These are serious warning signs, that require immediate attention. This is a condition that should not be overlooked. We can properly diagnose a disc herniation and provide fast relief using chiropractic care and physical therapy. If you suspect that you may have a disc herniation, I encourage you to schedule your free consultation at Allisonville Chiropractic today. Visit our site www.ChiropractorFishers.com for details.

With sports, come injuries. Being an athlete growing up, a year never went by that I didn’t sustain some sort of sprain/ache/break. By the time I finished high school my knee had been beat up pretty good, my shoulders impinged, my wrists were hypermobile, bone spur in the elbow, broken ankles, fingers, and on and on…Funny thing about these injuries, is that no one ever told me how those would effect me down the road. I’m now feeling the long term impacts of not healing properly from those injuries. At the time, locker room Cortisone shots and some athletic tape did the trick, just enough to keep me playing…

My story is repeated over and over with athletes in high school. Properly maintaining your body during high school athletics is very important. This will ensure that not only do you perform the best today, but also, that you will heal properly and won’t feel the effects of old injuries down the road.

If your child athlete has had sports related injuries, or is about to begin a new sport, come see the Sports Specialist who not only gets you back in the game quickly, but understands the athletes needs. Fix the problem in half the time with cutting edge therapies.

If you are not a patient of Dr. Drew Hoffman or Allisonville Chiropractic, visit our website at www.chiropractorfishers.com to schedule you free consultation with leader in natural solutions to Sports Injuries.
